Dual Laminate Piping used in Chlor-Alkali Plant Expansions
CPF Dualam Vancouver Inc. recently completed several dual laminate piping projects for the most modern Chlor-Alkali Membrane facilities jointly owned by Chinese and American companies which applied Japan's Chlorine Engineers Cell Membrane Technology.
This project used low concentration magnesium and calcium CPVC liners with FRP structural reinforcement for the anolyte piping which reduces the possibility of "chlorine buttering" usually encountered using styrene based vinylester resins.
The catholyte headers and hydrogen separators for the 33% membrane caustic was constructed from PP-B (block co-polymer polypropylene) liners due to it's corrosion resistance to membrane caustic and it's excellent long term resistance to chloride attack on the thermoplastic welds. The polypropylene liners were reinforced with fiberglass for structural strength.
